A few day ago Embree had her consult with an orthodontist.
She had a bunch of scans then we sat down with Dr. Tony.
(Recommended by Dr. Tableman and Brad)
It was SO cool!
She is missing two teeth-which we have known for years.
Which teeth they missing was the question.
They are the first teeth on either side of your two top front teeth or maxillary lateral incisors.
Which are the perfect teeth to be missing because they can substitute with your canine teeth!
They just shave them down a bit and it's done to non-cleft affected people all the time!
So NO IMPLANTS for Embree!!!!
We have been told she'd need one if not two implants since she was a baby.
We are so glad she can skip this extra surgery!
First up she'll need an expander but her molars are not in far enough so she's going to just start with braces.....
....so Dr. Tony and his family moved to our town over the summer so their oldest daughter Alexa is in Embree and Gwen's class this year! Embree loves her, she is a sweet girl. Gwen and Alexa just got an expander over the summer and were going to be getting braces the following week after our consult so Tony just added Embree in so they could get braces all together!
Alexa, Gwen and Bree.
It was quite the crew, all three families!
A before shot.
So her right side first tooth is COMPLETELY sideways to her other front tooth.
That's the tooth on the cleft side we're lucky she has!
I love this picture!
Everyone checking every one's teeth out!
Bree was a little nervous but she was a champ!
Poor girl she hates the smell of everything.
If it didn't smell bad she'd be fine!
Such a great girl!
All braced up!
This was really quite emotional for me. I can't believe we are at this point in her repair. So many things I've stressed and worried about are working out just fine. Even better then fine! At our consult last week Tony let us know that ALL of Embree's orthodontia will be FREE of charge!!!!!
This is such a big deal! It takes off SOO much stress! I spend hours on the phone with our insurance, doc's offices and pharmacy's. Hours upon hours of clinic and doctor appointments. It takes an entire day to travel to Boston for my doctor appointments. And money?!?! AH, we spend so much money on meds! It is such a relief to not have to worry about this!
Embree has never been self conscious-she loves her cleft!
But it is so sweet that she gets to do this next big step WITH her friends!

How sweet! How old is she? My guy is waiting for his 6 year molars to come in and then we start braces too.
